What Are the Instructions Around Prescriptions?
The BMA advises that electronic prescriptions must be activated. If a patient hasn’t nominated a pharmacy yet then they should be asked to do so (even if temporary).
If, in the rare event a prescription needs to be picked up, this should only be done by the pharmacy.
Pharmacies should limit visits and arrange a time prior to visit.
What About Repeat Requests?
CARE UK have asked practices to contact their patients to ask them to submit repeats 1 week in advance rather than the usual 3 days. There is an overwhelming demand on out of hours for repeat prescriptions that could be managed by practices if patients expectations were changed regarding time frame - COVID-19 Newsletter 03
