We’re launching a new quarterly forum for our Kafico DPO+ customers, designed to support GP practices with the real-world challenges of data protection, digital tools, and risk management.
Each session will bring together practices from across our network to explore practical, relevant topics in a structured and accessible way.
A simple format that works
Every forum follows the same three core themes:
💻 Tech – the tools and systems you’re using (including AI)
✊🏼 Rights – patient rights and complex information requests
⚠️ Risk – what can go wrong and how to manage it
The content will change each time, but the structure stays consistent, making it easy to attend regularly and build confidence over time.
First session: What we’ll be covering
Our first forum brings together three highly relevant topics for GP practices today.
💻 Tech: AI and the Equality Act
We’ll explore how AI is beginning to appear in general practice, and what that means in terms of fairness and access.
Where AI tools are already being used
How automation can unintentionally disadvantage certain patient groups
What “protected characteristics” mean in practice
Key questions to ask before adopting AI-enabled tools
Real examples of bias and exclusion risks
Takeaway: A practical guide to using your CleanAI platform to support clinical safety and fairness
✊🏼 Rights: Parental SARs – how to manage them
Parental access requests can be some of the most complex scenarios GP practices face.
When a parent can request access
When a child’s confidentiality becomes central
Assessing capacity and competence
Recognising red flags
Responding consistently and safely
Common mistakes to avoid
Takeaway: A clear decision guide for handling parental SARs in practice
⚠️ Risk: Cyber security in the practice
We’ll look at the most common cyber risks affecting GP practices and what “good enough” looks like in a busy environment.
Key risks: phishing, passwords, access control, device use
Everyday behaviours that create avoidable risk
Practical steps to strengthen cyber hygiene
What to do when something goes wrong
Takeaway: A simple, practice-level cyber security checklist
Learning through real scenarios
The session will include an interactive case discussion, based on real-world situations:
Introducing an AI note-taking tool
Managing a parental request for a teenager’s records
Responding to a potential cyber incident
We’ll work through:
What you would do
Where the risks sit
What needs to happen next
What should be documented
